Pabineau First Nation is pleased to share an employment opportunity with the North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC) for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist.
The GIS Specialist will join NSMTC’s Technical Services team and help manage and improve geospatial and infrastructure asset information for its seven Member Nations, including Oinpegitjoig (Pabineau First Nation).

Location: 47 Church Road, Natoaganeg (Eel Ground) First Nation, New Brunswick
Anticipated Start Date: October 9, 2026 (negotiable)
Term: One-year contract with a three-month probationary period

About the Position
The GIS Specialist will support the management, accuracy and continuous improvement of NSMTC’s geospatial and infrastructure asset information.
The successful candidate will collect, validate, maintain and integrate spatial and attribute data while producing maps, spatial analyses and other GIS resources to support infrastructure planning, operations and asset management.
The position will also involve working with survey-precision data, high-resolution aerial imagery and NSMTC’s Member Nations.
Key Responsibilities
The GIS Specialist’s work will include:
Maintaining and updating GIS databases and infrastructure asset information.
Collecting, validating and managing spatial and attribute data from field and office sources.
Preparing maps, drawings, spatial analyses and other GIS deliverables.
Supporting infrastructure planning, operations and asset management.
Working closely with the Geomatics Specialist to collect, integrate, verify and improve geospatial data.
Supporting the development of GIS workflows, standards and data-quality processes.
Creating and updating mapping products using Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
Supporting survey-precision data collection using RTK GPS/GNSS equipment.
Supporting high-resolution aerial imagery collection using drone and D-RTK equipment and processing data using Esri Drone2Map.
Troubleshooting geospatial applications and providing technical support and training to NSMTC users.
Building strong working relationships with NSMTC staff, leadership, Member Nations and government and non-government partners.
Qualifications & Skills
Applicants should have a diploma or degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography or a related field, along with experience working with GIS data, mapping and infrastructure assets.
Candidates should also have proficiency with ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro or similar GIS software, a strong understanding of spatial data, coordinate systems and GIS databases, and excellent data-management and quality-control skills.
A demonstrated understanding of Indigenous people, traditions and socio-economic conditions is essential. Spoken and written English is required, while proficiency in Mi’kmaq is considered an asset.
Location & Travel
The position will be based at the Natoaganeg Band Office in Natoaganeg (Eel Ground) First Nation, New Brunswick.
Regular travel to participating NSMTC Member Nations is required, with occasional travel throughout Atlantic Canada. Applicants must have a valid driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation.
