Extreme Wildfire Risk – Burn Category for New Brunswick: Red (Closed)

Old Field Road Situation Update
The NSMTC is closely monitoring wind maps and plume movements. At this time, the fire remains east of Miramichi and far enough away that it does not pose an immediate threat to NSMTC communities.
Please monitor regularly for updates:

NBEMO Update:

  • The Old Field Road wildfire is growing significantly and is expected to continue expanding.

  • Route 8 was closed yesterday, reopened later that evening, and has been closed again this morning.

  • The fire is running parallel and adjacent to Route 8.

  • If the fire reaches a predetermined trigger point, residents and camps along Kenna Road will be asked to evacuate.

  • We are working with the City of Miramichi and the Red Cross to establish a rest center for Wildland Fire Fighters, as no hotel rooms remain in the area.

Forecast:

  • The fire is expected to reach Bonne Route by late this evening.

  • Road closures are anticipated once it reaches this point.
