Wildlife on the Move Due to Wildfires – Here’s How You Can Help

How to Report Injured or Trapped Wildlife in New Brunswick

As wildfires continue to impact New Brunswick, our province’s wildlife is being forced out of their natural habitats and toward our highways in search of safety. We’re receiving reports of animals becoming trapped behind highway fencing, injured, or disoriented due to the smoke and fire activity.

This is a dangerous situation for both people and animals, but there are safe ways to help.

What to Do if You See a Wild Animal in Distress:

  1. Stay Safe – Please do not approach or try to handle a wild animal. They may be frightened, injured, and unpredictable.

  2. Document – If possible, take a clear photo or video and note the exact location (drop a pin to get the exact latitude and longitude, highway number, kilometre marker, or the nearest landmark).

  3. Call for Help Immediately

Wild animals can’t call for help, but you can. The faster the report, the better the chances for their rescue and survival.

Please share this information with friends, family, and community members so that more people know what to do. Together, we can reduce the risks and protect the wildlife that calls New Brunswick home.
