New Scholarship for Students
GLENCORE Brunswick Smelter Bursary: Support for Students in Science, Environment, Engineering, and Trades
The Brunswick Smelter team is proud to offer a $1,000 bursary for students from Pabineau First Nation (Oinpegitjoig), Eel River Bar First Nation (Ugpiganjig), and other communities represented by Mi'gmawe'l Tplu'taqnn Inc.. This bursary is designed to support students pursuing post-secondary education in the fields of science, environment, engineering, or trades.
Eligibility Requirements:
To apply for the Brunswick Smelter Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a Band Member of:
Oinpegitjoig/Pabineau First Nation
Ugpiganjig/Eel River Bar First Nation
Another community represented by Mi'gmawe'l Tplu'taqnn Inc.
Full-time post-secondary students entering or currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian institution, in academic, vocational, technical, or technological programs in science, environment, engineering, or trades.
Demonstrate one or more of the following:
Community involvement
Academic excellence
Leadership qualities
Career objectives that will make a positive contribution to society.
Submit the application by the July 31, 2025 deadline.
Application Process:
Submit an application with a detailed essay stating your academic and career goals, along with any achievements (academic, community service, leadership, etc.).

Selection Criteria:
The Bursary Selection Committee will assess applications based on the following criteria:
Community Involvement – 35%
Academic Performance – 20%
Career Goals – 10%
Demonstrated Leadership – 40%
Selection Process:
The Brunswick Smelter Decommissioning Team will assemble a Bursary Selection Committee each year. The committee will consist of:
Three First Nations community members
Two Brunswick Smelter members
The successful candidate will be notified by October 31, 2025, and the bursary funds will be made available by November 30, 2025.

The Brunswick Smelter Bursary was created to support and encourage students in Mi’kmaq communities to pursue careers in fields that contribute to economic development, environmental sustainability, and innovation. The bursary helps provide the financial support students need to pursue their education and future careers, while also helping strengthen community relationships.
