Important Resource: First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Settlement

Pabineau First Nation would like to share an important resource for our community members. Starting March 10, 2025, the first Claims Period for the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Settlement is now open. This provides an opportunity for eligible individuals to submit claims for compensation related to First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle.

If you or someone in your family is a Class Member in the Removed Child Class or the Removed Child Family Class, you may be eligible to submit a claim for compensation.

Who is Eligible?

The Removed Child Class and Removed Child Family Class are now accepting claims. If you are unsure about whether you qualify, it is important to learn more about the Classes and see if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Future Claims Periods will open for additional Classes, including:

  • Kith Child Class

  • Kith Family Class

  • Jordan’s Principle Class

  • Jordan’s Principle Family Class

  • Trout Class

  • Trout Family Class

  • Essential Service Class

How to Submit a Claim

To submit a claim, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official website: First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Settlement.

  2. Review the eligibility requirements for the Removed Child Class or Removed Child Family Class.

  3. Submit your claim via the online form or contact a Claims Helper for assistance.

If you need help completing your claim or have questions about the process, you can reach out to Claims Helpers who offer free support in completing your forms. The Claims Helpers can guide you through the process, assist with identifying needed documents, and share resources for cultural, community, or wellness supports.

Important Deadlines

  • First Claims Period Deadline: July 31, 2025

  • Make sure to submit your claim before the deadline to be considered for compensation.

We encourage all Pabineau First Nation Band Members who may be eligible to apply for this important settlement. It’s an opportunity for compensation and recognition for those impacted by historical child welfare policies.
