General Scam Awareness
Scammers are increasingly using phone, text, and email to trick individuals. Protect yourself with these reminders:
Check email addresses carefully. Scammers often copy names but use fake accounts.
Be cautious with phone calls. Government agencies and banks will not demand personal or financial information over the phone.
Ignore suspicious texts. Avoid clicking links or replying to numbers you don’t recognize.
Scammers use AI to impersonate someones voice. Have a code word for your family to use in emergency situations. Scammers will call pretending to be your family member asking for money to tow their car, or post bail, etc. They will insist its urgent as the phone is dying and their cell phone is dead. It is important to ask questions and to ask call back. Call their cell phone.
Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, it likely isn’t.
