Job Description:

The First Nation Enhancement Support Worker will be a member of the Pabineau Enhancement Team in the provincial schools. This position will provide flexible support and coverage to students from Pabineau First Nation (Winpegijuig ‘Nnuegati) at Terry Fox Elementary School, Parkwood Heights Elementary School, Superior Middle School and Bathurst High School.

This is a support role that will provide behavioral, emotional, social and academic support to students from K to 12. The support worker will collaborate and work with the enhancement teachers, administration and Pabineau Education.

Responsibilities & Duties:

● Behavioral support

● Social support

● Emotional support

● Academic support

● Consult with Enhancement Team and collaborate on a regular basis to support students

● Provide support to Enhancement Teachers

● Report to Director of Education and Administration

● Facilitate positive relationships between First Nation community and ASD-N

● Participate in staff meetings

Criteria:

● One year post-secondary (degree, diploma or certificate) training and experience in a related field.

● Examples of related fields are programs or degrees in Early Childhood, Youth Care, Human Services, Educational Assistants, etc. Courses are offered through community colleges, institutes, and universities.

● Examples of related experience are jobs in Youth Care, Group Homes, Support Services, Relief Care, Supported Employment, or Training Centers.

● Candidates who have not worked in a related field of study but possess other post-secondary programming may be required to complete academic testing. Selected candidates must successfully pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

● Selected candidates must successfully complete Policy 701 Student Protection Policy Training before being hired or added to the database.

● Must be knowledgeable about and abide by the Department of Education's Educational Assistant Guidelines for Standards and Evaluations.

● Only programs from recognized post-secondary institutions will be accepted.

● Trauma-informed approach.

● Cultural competency for Indigenous peoples

● Knowledge of Mi’gmaq culture, communities and people.

Compensation: Contractual (Annual with possibility of renewal)

$20 to $25 an hour.

Compensation is dependent on the qualifications of the candidate that is selected.
