First Nation Enhancement Teacher is a liaison position to help assist and support Pabineau First Nation (Winpegijuig) and Anglophone North School District to provide academic, social and behavioral support for the students of the First Nation community in the public education system at the designated school. This role must also be culturally supportive for First Nation students at Superior Middle School. This position is under First Nation Education Enhancement.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

● Academic support

● Social and behavioral support

● Promote awareness and appreciation of First Nation culture

● Be a positive role model and act as a First Nation student advocate

● Facilitate an inviting space for Indigenous students

● Provide academic support where required and as identified by classroom teachers, guidance, community and enhancement.

● Facilitate small group/individual academic and interventions

● Consult with classroom teachers and administration to provide consistency for students with their progress.

● Provide homework/assignment support for all subject areas.

● Communicate with school personnel regarding issues that may be affecting First Nation student progress.

● Support behavioral plans or personal support plans where required and as identified by the students services team.

● Facilitate positive communication and relationships between school personnel, First Nation students, and parents.

● Communicate with school personnel regarding issues that may be affecting First Nation student progress

● Encourage extracurricular participation in school activities

● Provide updates on First Nation student progress and daily activities to the principal, as required

● Provide monthly reports to the Director of Education in Pabineau

● Participate in staff meetings, student services meetings, NEAT meetings, and professional development, as required

● Other duties as assigned

Qualification Criteria:

● Education: Undergraduate Degree (preference Bachelor of Education Degree or Master's Degree)

● Proficient in Literacy

● Proficient in Numeracy

● Proficient with social studies

● English and French

● Able to provide behavioral support

● Trauma-informed

● Holistic approach

● Organized and self-motivated

● Strong collaborative skills

● Proficient with technology (Microsoft office suite, Powerschool, Google, Office)

● Cultural competency with First Nations/Indigenous peoples in Canada.

● Cultural competency with Mi’gmaq culture, people and community.

● Obtain policy 701 and pass vulnerable sector check and criminal record check.

Compensation: Contractual (Annual with possibility of renewal).

Compensation is dependent on the qualifications of the candidate that is selected.
