MTI - Director of Administration
Mi’gmawe'1 Tplu'taqnn Incorporated (MTI) is a not-for-profit organization created by the Mi’gmag First Nations in New Brunswick. Its objectives include promoting and supporting the recognition, affirmation, exercise, and implementation of the Aboriginal and Treaty rights; the right of self-determination; political, cultural, economic, educational and social development; justice and equity; wider respect and understanding; and general awareness of its member communities and their Mi'gmag laws, rights, values, traditions, customs and practices.
MTI is seeking a person to work as Director of Administration. The Director position includes, but is not limited to, the following key job functions and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and improve where necessary, the operational systems, processes and policies in supporting the organization, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business development and planning;
In collaboration with the Executive Director, address all Human Resource matters;
Assist in the development and implementation of workplans for the Community Liaisons;
Support in the management and effectiveness of support services within various departments in MTI;
Significantly contribute to the development of long-term planning, including initiative geared towards operational excellence;
Manage implementation of MTI strategic plan through operational plans and policy
Assist with funding applications and proposals to support MTI strategic goals and priorities;
Oversee policy implementation and reinforcement;
Act to support various MTI departments when necessary;
Assist to identify potential impacts on Aboriginal and Treaty rights and Aboriginal Title of the Mi'gmaq and, under the direction of the Executive Director, suggest actions that will protect Aboriginal and Treaty Rights;
Assist in coordinating consultation and accommodation processes with member communities;
Assist in organizing community workshops on topics relating to MTI operations and policies;
Assist in developing and reporting on workplans;
Research and prepare relevant documentation for workshops and meetings and for general distribution within communities;
Assist in the presentation of information and updates to Chiefs through in-person meetings and written reports;
Assisting in obtaining and presenting financial information and prepare budgetary information on a regular basis;
To provide support to Chiefs and Negotiators on operational matters;
Work with other MTI staff, consultants and advisors as required;
Report to and take direction from the Chiefs through the MTI Executive, legal counsel, Executive Director on a weekly basis and whenever else required;
Ensure that MTI policies and procedures are followed; and
Other matters as may be directed by the organization.
The Candidate Shall:
Be a self-starter and able to work alone with minimal supervision;
Have excellent written, spoken, organizational and presentation skills;
Demonstrate adequate proficiency in computer skills, including computer applications such as Microsoft Office;
Report department records of time and tasks accomplished on a weekly basis;
Be accessible by phone and email as required;
Be willing to work flexible hours as needed;
Be able to maintain expenditure controls;
Possess a valid, non-restricted, non-probationary drivers' licences, clean drivers' abstract and have access to a vehicle;
Be able to travel at short notice.
Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate:
Knowledge of Aboriginal and Treaty Rights;
Experience in strategic implementation of plans, policies and programs;
Experience in Human Resources;
A related university or college degree and demonstrated, relevant and practical experience supported by references.

Candidates' knowledge of the Mi gmaq language, culture and the Mi' gmaq First Nation communities of New Brunswick will therefore be given the highest consideration. In addition, Mi'gmawe'l Tplu'taqnn Incorporated may give preferential consideration to candidates who are members of one of the Mi'gmaq First Nation communities of New Brunswick.
Salary: Salary will be based on experience of successful candidate.
Subject to the response to this competition, education and experience requirements may increase.
