A Historic Step Forward: Celebrating New Tax Revenue Sharing Agreements
Today marks a truly historic day for First Nations in New Brunswick. Chief and Council, alongside the provincial government, officially signed new tax revenue sharing agreements — a step toward meaningful economic reconciliation.
For years, these agreements were delayed, debated, and even rejected by previous administrations. But today, with the leadership of Premier Holt, Minister Chaisson, Minister Legacy, and the support of the provincial government, our communities are celebrating a turning point.
Chief Terry captured the moment best:
“The signing of our new tax revenue sharing agreement with the province of NB!!! Well done to Premier Holt and Minister Chaisson and Minister Legacy as well as the whole provincial government. This is what economic reconciliation looks like!!”
These agreements are more than just policy — they represent:
Recognition of the economic rights of Indigenous communities.
Partnership between First Nations and the province, built on respect and collaboration.
Opportunities to reinvest in our communities, create jobs, and strengthen self-determination.
This signing shows what is possible when governments and Indigenous leadership work together for progress. It is a reminder that reconciliation is not just about words, but about action — action that strengthens our communities today and lays a foundation for generations to come.
We celebrate this moment with pride, gratitude, and hope for the future. ✨
