PABINEAU FIRST NATION EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Position: Indigenous Community Peacekeeper and Pabineau First Nation Community Security

Objectives:

Pabineau First Nation Community Security deters crime and maintains public safety, by means of their mere presence via regular patrols, documentation, and prompt communication to official law enforcement agencies as needed. You are being hired to work and are required to do scheduled shift work.

Accountability:

The employee will be accountable to the person who, in turn, is accountable to the Chief and Council.

Responsibilities:

1. Maintaining Peace and Safety:

  • Deter crime and maintain public safety within the community.

  • Operate at the community level, understanding unique needs, cultural context, and challenges.

  • Build respect and effective communication with community members.

2. Security Patrols and Monitoring:

  • Conduct regular patrols and monitor community activities.

  • Patrol designated areas (e.g., Community Band Hall, Health Center, Head Start building, Storage lots, Gas & Smoke Shop, Restaurant, Salmon Trap building, Water Tower, Water Shed, Community Members’ Residences, community apartments, and Community Structures).

  • Identify potential security risks and respond appropriately.

3. Community Interaction and Assistance:

  • Assist community members and visitors with concerns respectfully and professionally.

  • Provide a visible presence to enforce safety and security.

  • Promptly communicate with official law enforcement agencies when needed.

4. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Provide detailed reports on daily activities, observations, and incidents.

  • Maintain accurate records of conditions, security operations, and incidents.

  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations and laws.

5. Conflict Management and De-escalation:

  • Emphasize verbal intervention to prevent violence.

  • Stay levelheaded and respond quickly in stressful situations.

  • Evict trespassers and violators following legal protocols.

6. Training and Skill Building:

  • Attend training opportunities, including specialized courses.

  • Practice real-life scenarios using simulators and role-playing.

7. COVID-19 Protocols:

  • Adhere to COVID-19 protocols for entering and leaving community checkpoints when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Preferential consideration for candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six (6) months of relevant experience.

  • Valid NB Driver’s license

  • Indigenous Peacekeeper Training Certificate will be an asset.

  • Clean criminal record.

  • Physical stamina to perform demanding tasks.

  • Availability for extended hours and emergency response.
