Supporting Students: BYOD Laptop Program & Subsidy Details
Bring Your Own Device Program – Support for Families
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has introduced the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for students in Grades 9–12. A laptop or tablet is now considered an essential learning tool in these grades, helping students access more personalized learning and preparing them for post-secondary studies and the workplace.
The Department recognizes that buying a new device can be a financial challenge for families. To help, a financial assistance program is now available for low to middle income households.
How Families Can Access Support
Parents and guardians have two options to provide their student with a device:
Reimbursement Option – Buy a device that meets the program’s minimum requirements and apply for reimbursement within 6 months of purchase. Funds are returned by e-transfer or cheque.
Subsidy Option – Apply online for a subsidy. Once approved, you will receive a subsidy code to use towards purchasing a laptop through IMP Solutions. If you qualify for the full subsidy of $685.15, the Lenovo 500W 2-in-1 Gen 5 laptop will be fully covered.
What You’ll Need to Apply
Your most recent Notice of Assessment or last 4 consecutive pay stubs (for you and your partner)
The NBEN for each student in Grades 9–12 needing a device
A receipt if you’ve already purchased a device
Applications are submitted through the Parent Portal. After applying, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a reference code, and once validated, an approval email with either your reimbursement details or your subsidy code.
If You’re Ineligible
Families who do not qualify for assistance can still purchase the Lenovo 500W 2-in-1 Gen 5 laptop at a discounted price through IMP Solutions https://eecdsd-edpeae.impsolutions.com
