Sasha Paul

I was born on 06 Sep 1972 and lived my entire life in the Maritime Provinces. In 1991, I began my military career with the Primary Reserves as a Non Commissioned Member with the 2nd Battalion, Royal New Brunswick Regiment. I eventually transferred to the Princess Louise Fusiliers until I graduated from Dalhousie University in 1997 with an Advance BA in History and Political Science. After graduating from college, I left the Reserves for a brief stay with Canada Customs. In 1999, I reenlisted under the Direct Entry Officer program and finished my trade training in 2002 and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. I was then posted to the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment located in Gagetown, NB as a Platoon Commander.
From 2002-04, I served as a Platoon Commander in Golf Company and worked as the Liaison Officer for the Nova Scotia International Tattoo and the local cadet core. In 2004 I had the opportunity to deploy on Operation HALO (Haiti) as the Defense and Security Platoon Commander/Operations Officer for the National Support Element. Upon my return, I was transferred to Lima (Administrative) Company as the Battalion Transport Officer. In June 2005, just prior to current posting, I deployed on Operation AUGURAL (Senegal) as the Company 2nd in Command for a Training Centre focused on training the African Union going into the Sudan on Canadian Armour Personnel Carriers. Since Oct 2005, I have been posted to the Infantry School as an instructor and currently am employed as the Officer in Charge of the Common Army Phase as part of the basic officer training programme.
I have completed an Environmental Officer course, Transport Supervisor training, The Army Tactical Operations Courses and finally The Army Operations Course held in Kingston Ontario in which I graduate amongst within the top 5% of my class. I am currently slated to be deployed to Afghanistan in October 2008 for nine months as the aide to the Colonel of The Royal Canadian Regiment.
My wife Sheila has supported my military career while raising our two children, Emily and Christopher and working full time.
