My name is Rose Kryszko and I am the Pabineau First Nation’s Economic Development Officer (EDO). In my role as EDO, I work collaboratively with the Chief and Council in their efforts to secure opportunities for economic and business development, increase local employment, and promote the Pabineau First Nation community as a friendly, courteous, and accommodating place to do business.
I am grateful to Chief and Council for allowing me to use my Business Technology - Marketing college diploma (NBCC), Business Administration degree (UNB), and my CANDO certifications (TAED - Technical Aboriginal Economic Developer and PAED - Professional Aboriginal Economic Developer) to help the Pabineau First Nation establish, market, and manage three successful community owned-and-operated local businesses and assist in the development a number of other future business opportunities currently under development. In 2009, with support of Chief and Council, I initiated, and oversaw the design, construction, and establishment of the Pabineau First Nation’s first community owned-and-operated business, the Pabineau Seafood Takeout. In July 2012, the Pabineau Smoke Shop opened its doors followed by the opening of the Pabineau Gas Bar in November 2012.
As a part of my management and oversight of our three existing community businesses, I have the responsibility of supervising staff, advertising, financial management, payroll, bookkeeping, government reporting, preparing for audit, and many other day-to-day management-related tasks. In the management of business finances, I correspond with a chartered accountant, auditor, tax recovery auditor, Department of Finance - Revenue & Taxation Division, and report to CCRA for the collection and remittance of EI, CPP, personal income tax, tax collected on sales, etc.,.
In the management of our community restaurant, I have made it mandatory that all Pabineau Seafood Takeout staff (and I) be required to have their Food Safety course certification from Health Canada. All staff of Pabineau Seafood Takeout, the Pabineau Gas Bar, and the Pabineau Smoke Shop (and I) are WHMIS certified. The Store Manager and I work closely with Health Canada and the Fire Marshal to ensure that our facilities always meet health and safety standards and passes regularly scheduled inspections. To instill confidence among our customers of the importance of providing a clean safe environment to the general public, all Food Safety, WHMIS, Health Canada, Fire Marshall inspection certifications are posted throughout the business facilities.
I take great pride in promoting the Pabineau First Nation community, creating and uploading advertisement-based websites (Pabineau Seafood Takeout and Mother Earth’s Journey), developing and installing community signage, participating on the Pabineau Pow-wow committee, establishing “Pabineau Connect,” a local community telephone/email-based news forum, or just simply getting the community together to have a craft & bake sale.
I regularly send out emails to the Pabineau First Nation band membership to keep them apprised of local information and upcoming employment opportunities throughout the region. If you wish to be included in this correspondence, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will add you to my contact list. I look forward to hearing from you.
